How do you improve getting started when working with Python?

[mayalif]

I have been exploring Python and wanted to ask people who have tried it in practice.

I am particularly interested in getting started and productivity. I would like to compare approaches that people have actually used rather than just theoretical suggestions.

What would you tell someone trying this for the first time?
