advanced workflows: which workflow works best for Java?

[matt_2e9i]

I have been exploring Java and wanted to ask people who have tried it in practice.

I am particularly interested in advanced workflows and future improvements. I would like to compare approaches that people have actually used rather than just theoretical suggestions.

What would you tell someone trying this for the first time?
